Applying to train with Portsmouth SCITT and Tes Institute

We are delighted to confirm our partnership with Tes Institute, which enables Portsmouth SCITT to offer a wide range of secondary initial teacher training courses from September 2026. This page lists all available subjects, each offered through two routes: QTS only and  QTS with PGCE.

You will notice that applications for these courses are made via Tes Institute’s course listings. This is expected and should not cause concern. While Tes Institute is the accredited provider, Portsmouth SCITT is your local lead partner, responsible for recruitment, school placements, face-to-face training, mentoring and ongoing support throughout the year.

Some course listings may reference locations outside our immediate area. These locations relate to Tes Institute’s national delivery model and do not reflect where you will be training day-to-day. Subject-specific training will be delivered online, allowing you to learn alongside trainees from across the country, while professional studies and Intensive Training and Practice (ITaPs) will be delivered locally by Portsmouth SCITT. These sessions will take place in our established training base at Stamshaw Junior School, as well as within our carefully selected secondary partner schools.

If you are unsure which route or subject is right for you, or if you would like to talk through the application process, we warmly encourage you to contact the Portsmouth SCITT team for advice and guidance before applying.
